I feel as if people who say that Finn is worsening, less maturing or painting him as lowest of the low don’t seem to remember that for example, Flame Princess’s actions overall, were much worse than Finn’s. Flame Princess almost killed someone over a note, destroyed much of their kingdom, flipped out at servants because they were whispering, tried to make a kingdom out of some people’s home and cared none that people were screaming around them, only saying “Hmm, needs more fire.” Yes, sure she’s running a kingdom, but this is because she’s taking out her own frustrations out on everyone else. She’s doing a policy of honesty because it benefits her. Finn still does benevolent deeds to people, despite people pointing out that his love interest, which isn’t all of his characterization aspect, didn’t end well.
Based on the season premiere, I detect that Finn will get even better. If anything, Finn is actually maturing, slowly but surely. Finn has been rather dickish somewhat, but don’t disregard that other people did things worse than he did.
I think a lot of the hate towards Finn was people associating him with people in real life who acted that way, be it other people or even themselves.
We don’t like to be reminded of that time in our life, so we put ourselves on a high horse so to speak, and talk shit about Finn.
Flame Princess is somewhat immune to this, due to the fact that her actions are so unrelatable, and can usually be traced back to Finn the scapegoat in some way shape or form. Not to mention she’s always been pretty destructive so it’s not that surprising, whereas Finn’s behavior has been noticeably regressive.
They’re both going through one of the most painful, frustrating, and embarrassing part of their lives. But they’ll come out the better for it, as we all do.
We needn’t wait much longer for it though. The season of grief has come to an end, they’ve both made mistakes and now they’ll learn from them, it’s uphill from here on out.
